bouquet

Just sending some portraits of beautiful flowers to bring the weekend to a close.  These particular shots were taken in the New Hampshire summer capturing pure sunshine in a way that I didn’t expect . . .

cloudy days

I am learning to appreciate cloudy days.  Without them I wouldn’t see the contrasts . . . the lights and the darks . . . the sharper mirrored reflections . . .the tiny details.  Sunny days are wonderful, but the occasional overcast dark day is essential for the eyes – and the heart - to be sharpened and re-focused . . .

arlington

This past Christmas, several of my family members met in Hot Springs for the holidays.  We walked downtown past the bathhouses, admired the steamy hot water springs, and ended up at the Arlington on Central Avenue.  This hotel has been around in some form or another since 1875 and has seen many colorful characters pass through its doors – gangsters, politicians, and celebrities just to name a few.

The architecture is quite interesting and I captured a few of the unique structures and decorative elements included in the building . . .

peace

Sometimes I just need to get still for a few minutes, take a deep breath, and let the peace wash over me . . . just wanted to share a few photos that convey in some small way what that peace might look like on the inside . . .

funky junk

On a recent trip to NH, my friends and I ventured into an antique/junk/used/treasure house.  By the time we left, my brain was on overload.  There were so many things to see . . . comic books, drink bottles, lunch pails, tools, T-shirts, action figures . . . of the thousands of items on their shelves, many I recall from childhood.  I won’t say much about the photos, but I just wanted to share a few with you . . .

old school

For so long I balked at switching from a film camera to a digital.  I liked the excitement of developing the film and the surprise of finding out what I had captured.  I finally made the switch to digital a few years ago, and I have to admit that I really enjoy the instant gratification.  I especially get into how the photos can be edited on my laptop and shared with friends.

Even though I have made the leap, I am still interested in the “old ways” and I enjoy collecting obsolete photographic equipment.  Almost all of my stuff is inexpensive and was found at thrift shops and garage sales.  What a difference a few decades makes . . .

the blues

Blue in any shade is my favorite color . . . turquoise, navy, aqua, cobalt, periwinkle . . . and the list goes on and on.  I love it that blue thrills my eyes whether I am seeing it in a clear summer sky; throughout calm, warm island waters; frozen inside cold arctic glaciers; or woven into my most comfortable sweater and jeans.  Blue does not mean sad . . . blue means beautiful.

summer days

Temperatures are still hovering around triple digits, but summer is winding down.  School begins in just a few days, and I will soon be back with the kiddos.  I was just thinking about how fast the summer has passed, but I am so grateful for the travels and the friendships that I savored and enjoyed during these past few months.  Here’s to hot summer days, lounging on the beach, and playing in the emerald waves.
