I was visiting my brother and his family at their lake house in Missouri this summer. We had gone out on the screened porch overlooking the water to have a nice cup of coffee and catch the breeze. The reflections of window, sky and light in the glass caught my eye and I had to get a few shots . . . this photo is my favorite.

The word means “green, fresh-colored” . . . at times we use the word green to imply a state of unsophistication or to describe someone with little experience. The older I get, the more I find out I don’t know, the more unsophisticated I become . . . and I like it. I can gather scenes from each new day and look at them through eyes now willing to be amazed . . .

Last week I was lulled into a false sense of “fall”. Temps were in the 70s (what?!) and some days were even (gulp) cool and breezy. This week came roaring in with some high 90s and yesterday blessed us with triple digits again - 101
I knew we were in for a hot one when I saw this beautiful ball of fire rising above the clouds this morning . . .
As I was driving through the countryside later in the day, I spotted these ladies skinny dipping in the local pool . . .

These cuties live in New Hampshire high in the White Mountains. They flew in to greet me and gave me the look of ultimate coolness through their little black sunglasses-eyes . . .

In spite of triple-digit temperatures and very little rainfall, the lantana living in the flower beds manage to consistently show off. The roots have gone deep, and the multicolored blooms just keep coming, providing a paradise for the butterflies. The leaves haven’t faded and the hardy branches continue to pull the needed nutrients from the soil. In spite of . . .
“Most blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord. For they will be like a tree planted by the waters that spreads out its roots by the river; and it shall not see and fear when heat comes; but its leaf shall be green. It shall not be anxious and full of care in the year of drought, nor shall it stop yielding fruit.” (Jeremiah 17:7-8)

On a recent trip to visit my daughter and her significant other in the very hot, very dry state of Texas, we browsed through a magnificent store, Hubbell & Hudson. If my camera and I were allowed free reign in this store, I would spend hours photographing the fruits and veggies, the breads and cheeses, the meats and specialty items, and the people that produce and present it all with such professional flair. I give you a small sampling . . .
