The word means desolate; bare . . . brutally simple. When we observe such a state, it shakes us, shocks us even. Sometimes our inner man feels the desolation, the nudity of our own soul in all its need . . . but is it a bad thing to be forced to recognize the brutal simplicity of living? The uncomplicated, the unsophisticated, the easily understood . . . do we have difficulty finding satisfaction and contentment in these things? Dare to be simple-minded . . .
